Description
The lodge at Marr College on Dundonald Road in Troon was designed by John Arthur around 1919. It is a single-storey building with an attic and features a square plan with three bays, reflecting the style of Edwin Lutyens. The exterior is made of squared and snecked stugged cream sandstone with polished sandstone dressings. There is no base course, and the raised eaves course is located beneath the overhanging timber eaves. The building has polished quoins, long and short surrounds to chamfered openings, and sandstone mullions. A Tuscan porch is present at the entrance.
On the east elevation, there is a part-glazed timber panelled door that is recessed at the center, with a porch featuring detached columns, a plain frieze, and a cornice. A single window is located in the bay to the outer right. The south elevation has a raised, polished panel at the center and tripartite windows in the flanking bays, with two piended dormers centered above. The north elevation features a part-glazed timber door in the outer right bay, a single window in the left bay, and a piended tripartite dormer offset to the outer left.
The lodge predominantly has 6-pane timber casement glazing and a graded Cumbrian slate piended roof, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. A coped, whitewashed square-plan stack is located at the apex, topped with circular terracotta cans. The interior was not seen in 1997.
