Description
The Entrance Lodge at Rozelle House on Monument Road in Ayr dates from around 1800. It is a single-storey, three-bay, rectangular-plan building designed in a plain classical style. The lodge is constructed from painted, coursed sandstone, with harled sides, and features a base course, eaves cornice, and a blocking course on the entrance elevation.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a central doorpiece that is pilastered and pedimented, with a splayed-arched timber door and a split letterbox fanlight above. Flanking the door are single windows set in segmentally-arched recesses, each with aprons. The east side elevation has two single windows, while the west side elevation features a bipartite window on the left and a single window on the right. The north elevation was not visible in 1999.
The lodge has plate glass timber sash and case windows and a piended slate roof with lead ridges. It also includes cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1999.
The gatepiers and boundary wall consist of square-plan, panelled and corniced gatepiers, with quadrant coped wing walls.
