Description
23 Barns Street is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay pair of mirrored houses that are part of a terrace. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar with a rusticated ground floor. It features a vermiculated base course, a dividing band course, a first-floor cill course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The first-floor windows have aprons.
On the north elevation, there are steps leading up to a three-column fluted doorpiece with timber doors and three-light fanlights. Above, there are two single windows aligned at the first floor, with flanking single windows at both the ground and first floors.
The windows are plate glass timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone skews, coped stacks, and polygonal cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1998. There are spear-headed railings at the entrance steps, while the remaining railings are modern.
