Description
The Glebe, located on South Road in Bressay, is a single-storey croft built in the later 19th century. It features an L-plan arrangement that includes a cottage, barn, and kiln aligned along the same axis. The structure is constructed with drystone rubble walls topped by a stone slab roof.
On the west elevation, the gable of the northern range is advanced to the left, while the right side has a three-bay elevation that is recessed. The central bay contains a vertically-boarded timber door, with small windows in the flanking bays.
The south elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing three irregularly spaced vertically-boarded timber doors. There is a window in a later bay on the outer left, and the gable of the eastern range is advanced to the right, featuring a semicircular kiln at its center.
The north elevation presents a symmetrical six-bay arrangement, grouped in threes. A later blank bay has been added to the right (west). The doors on this elevation have been infilled with rubble, accompanied by flanking windows that are also rubble infilled, except for the outer right bay, which retains a four-pane timber sash and case window.
Additionally, there is an L-plan drystone wall that encloses the yard, along with a partially ruinous gabled outbuilding located at the southwest corner.
