Description
Leog House, located at 2 Leog Lane in Lerwick, is a mid-19th century, two-storey and attic house with a symmetrical rectangular plan. It features modern two-storey additions on the north side and rear elevations. The principal front is made of stugged ashlar, while the side elevations are constructed of rubble with stugged and droved ashlar dressings.
The east elevation, which is the principal front, has a projecting, pedimented ashlar porch at the center of the ground floor. This porch contains a four-panel timber door with a plate glass fanlight above, and three-pane fixed lights on either side. The ground and first floors have Wyatt windows in the flanking bays, and there is a narrow round-arched window in the gable head that breaks the eaves in the center bay.
On the south elevation, there is a single window to the left of center on the ground floor, with a window above and another in the bay to the right. A small window is centered in the gable head.
The house has modern glazing throughout and a purple-grey slate roof, which features piend-roofed, slate-hung canted timber dormers on the east pitch. The porch has a lead roof, and there are stugged ashlar apex stacks with cornices and octagonal cans. The ashlar skew copes are complemented by bracketted skewputts.
The boundary walls consist of random rubble to the north and south of the garden. There are square rubble gatepiers at the south gate, topped with droved pyramidal caps, and a slatted timber gate.
