Gordon Cottage, 2 Hillhead, Lerwick

Gordon Cottage, located at 2 Hillhead in Lerwick, dates from around 1840. This two-storey, three-bay house has a symmetrical rectangular plan. The walls are made of harl-pointed rubble with polished and droved ashlar dressings. The windows feature projecting cills, and there is a central pedimented ashlar porch that projects from the ground floor, which contains a four-panel timber entrance door topped with a plate glass fanlight. The fenestration is regular in the flanking bays and on the first floor, while the north gable is blank and made of rubble. At the rear, there is a modern lean-to addition with a single window on the left side of the first floor.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered in grey slate and features cast-iron gutters and downpipes with a hopper. The chimney stacks at the apex are stugged and droved, shared with the south side, and are coped with octagonal cans and ashlar skew copes.

The boundary walls and railings include rubble walls that extend at the ends of the principal elevation. There is a cement-rendered and lined dwarf wall along the street, topped with an ashlar cope and wrought-iron railings with spear finials. A matching gate with urn-finialled stanchions is located at the center. Additionally, there is a rubble boundary wall to the north.
