Description
Victoria Lodge is a two-storey, three-bay house built in 1897, located on Main Street in Gavinton. It is part of a terminating terrace that projects to the east. The northern elevation features stugged squared and coursed sandstone, while the eastern and southern elevations are made of sandstone rubble, with droved ashlar dressings on all sides. The building has a base, a band, and an eaves course.
On the north elevation, there is a panelled door at the center with a two-pane rectangular fanlight above, set in a slightly advanced doorpiece that has the name carved into the lintel. Above the door, a window at the first floor breaks the eaves, with "1897" carved into the lintel, and is gabled with an ashlar finial. There are windows in each floor of the flanking bays, which also break the eaves at the first floor.
The southern elevation has an irregular distribution of bays, including a window at the ground right of center. There is a glazed door in the bay to the right, with a window above breaking the eaves and gabled at the first floor. To the left, there is a small window at ground level, with a window above breaking the eaves and gabled, though not aligned with the ground. A projecting single-storey shed is located to the outer left, and the southeast corner is canted and corbelled out to square at the first floor.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring six-pane upper sections and plate glass lower sections. The roof is covered with slate and has scroll skewputts, along with brick stacks. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1995.
