Description
Tiendside, located on St Ronan's Terrace, is an early 20th century, 2-storey, 3-bay villa designed in the asymmetrical-plan, gabled Arts and Crafts style. The villa features squared bi-partite red sandstone box windows, a timber verandah, and balconies. Its rendered elevations are accented with red sandstone margined quoins, window margins, cills, and lintels. The verandah connects to an advanced gable on the right and a canted box window at the southeast corner. The property includes corniced box dormers with slated cheeks and a dormer doorway leading to a balcony. At the rear, there is a single-storey piended roof section with later patio-style doors. A mono-pitch, horizontally boarded timber storage shed with a corrugated roof is located at the southwest corner.
The villa predominantly features 9-pane glazing over plate glass in timber sash and case windows. The entrance includes a 5-panel timber door topped with a dentilled 6-pane fanlight. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and has timber bargeboards, along with corniced gable stacks that have tapered clay cans. The property also has cast-iron and plastic rainwater goods.
Inside, the villa showcases a good Arts and Crafts decorative scheme. It features an inner glazed door and side screen with fine coloured stained glass panels, geometric floor tiles in the hall, and timber stairs with turned banisters. The interior includes carved timber chimneypieces and delicate cornicing.
The boundary walls consist of buttressed brick walls that enclose a large garden extending uphill to the rear, which includes a brick-based timber greenhouse.
