Description

Belmore is a villa located on East Links Road in Gullane, built around 1900. This two-storey and attic building has a square plan and an asymmetrical design, featuring advanced bays and a modern extension at the rear. The exterior is harled, with a red sandstone base course and quoins, and it showcases applied timber framing on the first floor at the front and sides.

On the west elevation facing the road, there is an advanced bay to the left with a four-light canted window at the ground level, topped by a jettied gable. The centre and outer right bays have single windows, with the first-floor windows featuring swept dormer heads. The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a porch with a glazed pentice roof at the centre, with doorways on the west side framed in an applied round-arched timber design. To the left, there is an advanced gabled bay with a three-light window on the first floor, and a swept dormer head is found on the outer right, similar to the west elevation.

The east elevation at the rear has irregular openings and includes a modern addition on the right side at ground level. The south elevation mirrors the west elevation. The first-floor casements have small-pane glazing, while the ground floor features modern plate glass sashes. The roof is covered with red tiles and has a piend, culminating in a diminutive gable on the west side, with swept eaves supported by timber brackets and barge-boarded gables. There are flat-roofed three-light dormers with pediments above the centre lights, set high in the roof.

The chimney stacks are harled, diminishing in size and topped with sandstone coping. Inside, the villa features simple timber classical chimneypieces and panelled doors. The property is enclosed by a harled retaining wall with ashlar coping, gatepiers, and simple iron railings.
