Golf Hotel, Main Street, Gullane

The Golf Hotel, located on Main Street in Gullane, was built in 1836 and features a later 19th century extension. This two-storey and attic hotel is formed from two combined houses, with contemporary stables attached to the later house. The building was significantly extended at the rear around 1900 and again circa 1970. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, with a droved ashlar frontage. It includes raised margins, band courses, and cill courses.

On the southeast elevation, the hotel presents a symmetrical three-bay arrangement to the left, featuring single light windows and a central doorway. Above, there are two splayed dormers from the later 19th century. To the left, there is a pantiled piend-roofed lean-to outbuilding, while the right side has two bays with higher eaves and a piend roof. The left bay contains a wider doorway with a simple architrave and a single window above, while the outer right bay features bipartite windows. Both doorways are adorned with fanlit panelled double doors.

The former stables, linked to the eastern gable and advanced, consist of three bays. The central bay has a segmentally arched coach door flanked by windows. The outer bays feature gablehead hayloft dormers that break the eaves, along with a louvred ventilator that has a leaded apron and a bell-shaped cap on the rear roof.

The northeast elevation has undergone significant alterations, showcasing a variety of glazing patterns. It includes small-pane sash and case windows in earlier openings and 4-pane windows in the dormers. The roofs are slated, and there are gablehead and end stacks.
