Description

1836 with later 19th century extension. 2-storey and

attic hotel formed of 2 combined houses, with

contemporary stables adjoined to later house. Greatly

extended at rear circa 1900 and circa 1970. Squared and

snecked rubble with droved ashlar frontage to hotel.

Raised margins, band and cill courses.

S ELEVATION: 3-2 bays. Symmetrical 3 bays to left, with

single light windows and doorway at centre. 2 splayed

later 19th century dormers above. Pantiled piend-roofed

lean-to outbuilding to left. 2 bays to right with higher

eaves, piend roof. Wider doorway to left bay with simple

architrave and single window above. Bipartites to outer

right bay. Fanlit panelled double doors to both

doorways.

FORMER STABLE: linked to E gable and advanced. 3-bay.

Segmentally arched coach door at centre with flanking

windows. Gablehead hayloft dormers breaking eaves to

outer bays. Louvred ventilator with leaded apron and

bell shaped cap to rear roof.

N ELEVATION: much altered. Variety of glazing pattern.

Small-pane sash and case windows to earlier openings,

4-pane to dormers. Gablehead and end stacks. Slated

roofs.
