Description
Candlemas Cottage, located at 41 Main Street in Swinton, is an early to earlier 19th-century cottage that is part of a terrace and one of a pair. It is a near-symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure built from tooled sandstone rubble, featuring droved long and short surrounds to its openings and painted, projecting cills.
The southeast elevation, which is the entrance side, has a part-glazed, modern timber door that is offset to the left of center, with single windows on both floors in the flanking bays. The northwest rear elevation was not visible during the last inspection in 1998.
The cottage has timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing and a grey slate roof that is continuous with the adjacent property at No 39. It also features cast-iron rainwater goods and brick ridge stacks with various circular cans.
The boundary wall is a low, coped, and railed sandstone wall that encloses the site at the front, complete with a timber pedestrian gate.
