Coach House, 46 Main Street, Swinton

46 Main Street in Swinton is a late 18th century cottage that has undergone some alterations. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure that is part of a terrace, with a lower single-storey, two-bay wing on the outer left, which was formerly a coach house or workshop. The building is constructed from squared and snecked tooled cream sandstone rubble, featuring droved long and short surrounds around the openings and flush cills.

On the northwest (entrance) elevation, the main block has a boarded timber door at the center, with single windows in the flanking bays. The lower wing to the left has two-leaf boarded timber garage doors in the bay to the right and a single window to the outer left.

The southeast (rear) elevation has a lean-to addition that obscures the bays to the left, with a single window in the bay to the right and a box dormer above. There is an adjoining stable block projecting to the outer right, which has boarded timber doors in the return to the left.

The main block features four-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, with an eight-pane, lying-pane glazing in the timber sash and case window to the outer left. The rear has modern glazing and small skylights. The roofs are steeply pitched and covered with grey slate, with raised stone skews. There is a coped brick apex stack and a single circular chimney.

The interior was not seen in 1998.
