Description
3 Simon Square in Kelso is an earlier 19th-century building that stands two stories high and features six bays at the ground level. The entrance is centrally located, with additional doors at both ends, and there is a modern garage opening that is off-center. The first floor has four windows, which retain their original 12-pane double sash glazing. The exterior is constructed of coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings, and it has straight skews with brick stacks. The roof is slated, and the gable facing Abbey Row is harled.
Attached to the rear is a later 18th-century block that faces Abbey Row. This section is three stories tall and has two bays, featuring a modern opening at the ground level and a large segmental-headed Venetian window on the second floor. The rear block is harled with rendered margins and has a piended slated roof. There is also a two-story, single-bay lean-to link connecting it to 3 Simon Square, which includes a segmental-headed coach-house at the ground floor.
