The Royal Bar, 15 Market Square, Duns

The Royal Bar is an early 19th-century, two-storey and attic inn located on a corner site in Market Square, Duns. The building is harled and painted white, featuring a cement base course designed to resemble bull-faced ashlar. The corners are chamfered at the base, and there is a cill course at the first floor that bears the name of the establishment. The eaves are cavetto moulded, and the building has a regular arrangement of windows. It includes gabled timber dormers with glazed side panels.

On the southeast elevation, there are four bays, with cellar doors located in the base course of the right and centre left bays, along with a pair of dormers. The west elevation has two bays, featuring a modern door in the left bay at ground level and an enlarged window to the right, along with a single dormer. The rear elevation has a projecting gable on the left side with a door at ground level and a window in the gablehead, while the right side consists of three bays, with a door to the left and a centre window at ground level that is blocked; it also has a single dormer. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case, with the lower panes etched at ground level. The roof is pitched and piended at the corner, covered with grey slates and featuring brick stacks.

The interior of the building has been much altered.
