Ratho Cottage, 40 Rosetta Road, Peebles

Ratho Cottage is a two-storey, three-bay house built in 1886. It is constructed from whinstone with cream sandstone dressings, featuring heavily stugged long and short quoins and tabbed margins, as well as stop-chamfered arrises.

The west elevation has a central panelled door with a plate glass letterbox fanlight above it. The lintel is carved with the name "RATHO COTTAGE" and has a guilloche moulding. Above the door is a panelled datestone from 1886, adorned with terracotta heads in the corners and rope moulding. The ground floor is flanked by windows that have decorative carved lintels, while the first floor features windows set hard under the eaves in all bays.

The gable ends are blank, and there is a later door added at ground level to the north side. The windows are timber 4-pane sash and case, with plate glass lower sashes on the first floor. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar coped skews with gablet skewputts. The corniced whinstone apex stacks have sandstone dressings, with some featuring octagonal cans.

In front of the cottage, there is a low rubble boundary wall topped with saddleback ashlar coping and later railings.
