Description
19 and 21 Rosetta Road in Peebles is a single-storey terraced row built in 1865, consisting of a 4-bay former school that now serves as a church hall and a pair of 2-bay cottages, with the school projecting to the rear. The building is constructed from whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings. The doors feature 3-pane rectangular fanlights, and the hall includes bipartite windows.
On the east elevation facing Rosetta Road, the hall is located to the south, with a central window that breaks the eaves, topped by a gabled dormerhead and flanked by additional windows. To the right, there is a boarded door. The mirrored pair of cottages to the north has chamfered arrises, with doors located centrally (the left door is boarded) and a window with a gabled timber dormer in the outer bays.
The south elevation of the hall shows two broad bays, each with windows that have stop-chamfered arrises. The right bay is gabled, while the left bay features a window that breaks the eaves and is topped by a gabled dormerhead. There is a lean-to shed on the outer left, which includes a flush door and a small window.
On the west elevation, the broad projecting gable of the school is to the right, with a pair of windows separated by a later brick stack (the right window is blocked and mostly obscured by a lean-to). There is a projecting piend-roofed closet to the left, which has a later flat-roofed extension, along with a single window. The cottages have a mutual projecting flat-roofed dry-dash extension in the centre bays.
The north elevation, facing Wemyss Place, features a blank gable to the left, while the rear wing of the hall is set back to the right, containing a window and a door.
The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case, with 8-pane (and some 6-pane casements) in the hall and 12-pane windows in the cottages (the dormers have plate glass). The roof is covered with grey slates, and features ashlar coped skews, coped whinstone stacks, and mostly octagonal cans.
The boundary walls are made of rubble with boulder coping.
