Description

Marion Cottage, located at 19 March Street in Peebles, was built in 1886. It is a single-storey and attic double cottage with three bays, featuring intricate carved ornamentation. The structure is constructed from whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings, and it displays long and short rock-faced quoins, stop-chamfered arrises, and panelled lintels.

The front elevation has a pair of doors at the center, with the right door being panelled and both doors topped with letterbox fanlights. The lintels above the doors are adorned with carved husk swags and rosettes, and there is a panelled date stone above that reads 1886. Above this, there is a bipartite box-dormer. To the right, there is a canted window with a cornice and blocking course, featuring carved foliate decoration on the lintels and a framed panel above inscribed "ALEXANDER COTTAGE." To the left, there is a bipartite window with a lintel carved with gadrooned scrolls and a framed panel above inscribed "MARION COTTAGE." The outer bays have piend-roofed canted timber dormers, while the east and west gables are blank. At the rear, there is a projecting gabled single-storey and attic bay for No. 21.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, featuring two-pane upper sashes on the left at ground level. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the building has ashlar coped skews and coped sandstone apex stacks.
