Description

Probably George Beattie, dated 1862 for Walter Thornburn, merchant. Picturesque single storey and later attic 3-bay lodge on corner site. Whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings. Overhanging eaves with exposed rafters; pierced timber gableheads and bargeboards.

E (Springwood Terrace) elevation: gabled end bay; canted timber window, bipartite at centre, with panelled parapet and urn finials.

N (entrance) elevation: symmetrical. Ashlar doorcase with roll-moulded arris and cresting; dated 1869; 2-leaf door with stop-chamfered panels and multi-pane letterbox fanlight (glazed as windows); gabled canopy. Flanked by bipartite windows with chamfered arrises. Lean-to rubble extension to right.

S (Springwood Road) elevation: blank wall with small window; shouldered wallhead stack at centre, flanked by large modern bipartite dormers with swept roofs. Lean-to rubble extension to left.

Decorative timber diamond-pane casement windows. Grey slates;coped ashlar-dressed stack with octagonal cans.

Interior: not seen 1994.

Boundary walls: rubble boundary walls with saddleback ashlar coping.
