Springwood Lodge, Springwood House, Springwood Drive, Peebles

Springwood Lodge, built in 1862 for merchant Walter Thornburn, is a picturesque single-storey lodge with an attic, located on a corner site. The building is constructed of whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings. It features overhanging eaves with exposed rafters, along with pierced timber gableheads and bargeboards.

The east elevation, facing Springwood Terrace, has a gabled end bay with a canted timber window that is bipartite at the centre, adorned with a panelled parapet and urn finials. The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical and includes an ashlar doorcase with a roll-moulded arris and cresting, dated 1869. The entrance has a two-leaf door with stop-chamfered panels and a multi-pane letterbox fanlight that is glazed like the windows. A gabled canopy is present above the door, flanked by bipartite windows with chamfered arrises. To the right, there is a lean-to rubble extension.

The south elevation, facing Springwood Road, features a blank wall with a small window and a shouldered wallhead stack at the centre, flanked by large modern bipartite dormers with swept roofs. There is also a lean-to rubble extension to the left.

The lodge has decorative timber diamond-pane casement windows and is roofed with grey slates. The chimney stack is coped and dressed in ashlar, topped with octagonal cans. The boundary walls consist of rubble with saddleback ashlar coping. The interior was not seen in 1994.
