Description

East Lodge at Kailzie House dates from around 1880 and features a later rear extension. This picturesque lodge is single storey with an attic and has a rectangular plan that appears L-shaped. It is constructed from coursed whinstone rubble, with tabbed ashlar quoins and dressings, and includes a timber porch with plain barge boarding.

On the southeast (principal) elevation, there is an open timber porch located to the center right. This porch has a projecting pitched canopy, a gabled end with diamond brackets, and carved drop in-fill, supported by heavy turned and chamfered timber posts. The entrance door is panelled. To the right of the porch is a blind wall. To the left of the porch, there is a slightly projecting gable featuring a central bipartite window, with exposed rafters and purlins supporting a large timber barge board that has a straight bracket in-fill and a carved drop finial. The gabled ends of the main lodge are visible on the left and right returns.

On the northwest (rear) elevation, the original fenestration is concealed by a much later single storey extension. The glazing has been replaced with multi-paned units, likely resulting in the loss of the original stone mullion in the bipartite window on the main elevation. The roof is pitched and covered with purple slate, featuring overhanging eaves, lead ridging, and valleys. There are no rainwater goods; instead, it relies on the overhanging eaves of the main house, with a gutter and downpipe at the verge of the gable and porch. A tall stepped ashlar stack rises from the roofline, topped with a projecting ashlar neck cope and plain terracotta cans.

The interior was not seen in 2002 but was in use as residential accommodation.
