42-44 Oakshaw Street is a house built around 1830, featuring three bays and two storeys with an attic to the south and a basement to the north. The south elevation has a painted render that mimics ashlar stonework. There is a shallow projecting porch between the floors, which is accessed by steps. The entrance includes a double-leaf panelled door with a lugged architraved surround, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows on the ground floor have been altered but originally featured 12-pane sashes. The building has an eaves band and a slate roof with skews, corniced end stacks, and two canted dormers. The north elevation is constructed of ashlar stone and includes panelled angle pilasters and segment-headed basement windows. The entrance features a pilastered doorpiece that is approached by steps and topped with an entablature and block pediment. The ground floor windows are architraved with cornices, and there is an eaves cornice along with two canted dormers.
