Description
The Mecca Social Club, located at 23 High Street in Paisley, was designed by architect Geo A Boswell in 1912 and showcases Art Deco style. The building features a three-storey, five-bay facade made of glazed variegated brick. Although the ground floor has been altered, the capitals of the original coupled pilasters or columns that flank the entrance still remain. Above the ground floor, there is a cornice and frieze. The first floor displays pylons on the outer bays, with pilasters that rise to bracketed pediments. The central bays contain keystoned windows with oculi above and pilasters in between, which support an entablature with a mutule cornice. The building is topped with a parapet that features moulded decorative panels.
As of 2008, the interior auditorium has been demolished, and a large shopping centre is now situated behind the original facade.
