Description
18 High Street in Paisley is a commercial building dating from around 1880, designed in a Thomsonesque classical style. It stands three stories tall with an attic and features five bays. The exterior is constructed of ashlar stone. The ground floor has been modernized with a new shop front. Above this, a blocking course creates a sill for the giant order of the building.
Tuscan pilasters extend from the ground through the first and second floors. The first floor has sash windows that are flanked by antae, with an entablature running above them. The second floor features architraved windows with carved aprons. The eaves are adorned with an entablature that has a dentilled cornice, and there is a parapet with acroteria at the top. The slate roof is mansarded at the outer edges and includes three pedimented dormers. The central dormer has twin stacks with small pediments that are connected by a piended parapet.
