Description
The Masonic Hall, located at 20 High Street in Paisley, was built in 1882 and showcases a French Renaissance architectural style. It is a three-storey building with an attic and features a three-bay façade, although the ground floor has been modernized with shops. The exterior is constructed of ashlar stone.
Prominently, there is a seated statue set in a niche at the center of the first floor. This niche is framed by two shallow canted outer bays that extend through the first floor, supported by Corinthian pilasters adorned with lozenge and triangle decorations. The cornice above breaks forward over the window and the niche. The flanking windows are designed with mullions and transoms and are framed in a similar style.
On the second floor, the windows are treated like those on the first, but they include a continuous cill course and pedestals beneath the pilasters. The eaves cornice and die parapet feature balusters in front of the dormers. The roof is a mansard style, covered with slate, and includes three steeply pedimented dormers. The chimney stacks are topped with small segmental pediments.
