Description
The Gaelic Chapel, located at 20 Oakshaw Street in Paisley, was built in 1793 and altered in 1909 by T G Abercrombie. The building features a layout of five by three bays and is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings.
On the south elevation, there is a former gallery level that includes a round arched and pilastered doorpiece designed by Abercrombie. The windows, particularly those in the second and fourth bays, have been altered by Abercrombie and feature margined designs. The ground and first-floor corniced windows are linked by raised ashlar panels that display oval medallions commemorating the 1909 restoration. The building has an eaves band and cornice, topped with a slate piended roof. The other elevations maintain simple original details.
Inside, the chapel is divided into two floors. The exterior is complemented by square ashlar gatepiers with cornices and pyramidal caps, along with simple arrowhead gates and stair rails.
