Description
6, 8, 10, 12 Kinnoull Street in Perth is a Victorian Renaissance tenement building designed by David Smart around 1895. It stands three stories high with an attic and features four bays, with shops located on the ground floor. The building is constructed from red sandstone ashlar and includes a base course, a cornice at the ground level, a band course, an overhanging dentilled cornice, a cornice at the attic storey, and a blocking course.
The façade is adorned with part-fluted Ionic pilasters that extend through the first and second storeys. The first-storey windows are framed within Corinthian pedimented and segmental-arched aedicules, while the second-storey windows have raised, moulded architraves. Some of the windows are bipartite and tripartite.
The entrance is located off-centre and features a six-panel timber door with a segmental-arched fanlight above, topped with an advanced, consoled pediment. To the left of the entrance are two deep, key-stoned, segmental-arched window openings, along with a similar doorway at the far left. To the right, the shop fronts at Nos 10 and 12 are symmetrical, each with central recessed doorways, encaustic tiled entrances, and part-glazed inner doors; No 10 also has metal gates. The shop fronts include tall display windows supported by slender cast-iron columns and narrow clerestories, with stallrisers, and those at No 12 feature prismatic glass.
The upper floors predominantly have plate-glass timber sash and case windows with horns, while the ground floor has plate glass. The building is topped with coped gable and ridge stacks.
