Description
The ice house at HMP Castle Huntly dates to the late 17th century and is located to the northeast of the castle. It features a semicircular forecourt set into the hillside, which is supported by rubble retaining walls. A flight of steps leads down to the entrance, and the area is surrounded by later metal railings. The interior, as observed in 2014, includes a brick-lined passage that leads to an egg-shaped ice chamber, also lined with brick.
