Description

1 George Street in Blairgowrie is a 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan house built around 1845, situated in an irregular terrace to the south. The building features a corniced porch and a segmentally-arched doorway. The exterior is characterized by narrow bands of squared rubble with ashlar dressings and quoin strips, while the rear is harled. The margins are raised.

On the southeast (principal) elevation, there is an advanced gable to the right of center, with a window on each floor. The porch includes a modern panelled timber door, a plate glass fanlight, a cornice, and a blocking course in the re-entrant angle to the left, along with an additional window on each floor to the left.

The northeast (James Street) elevation is a blank wall with a broad gable to the right. The northwest (rear) elevation displays a variety of elements, including a projecting piend-roofed stair tower on the right, a lean-to bay in the re-entrant angle to the left, and a stair window at the center of the first floor.

The windows are double-glazed with a replica 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case, and there is a margined stair window. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar and harled stacks with polygonal cans, along with narrow plain bargeboarding.

The property is enclosed by low saddleback-coped boundary walls featuring inset decorative cast-iron railings and a gate to the southeast, while the northeast side has high semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.
