The Whitehouse, Whitehouse Lane, Stromness

The Whitehouse, located on Whitehouse Lane in Stromness, is an outbuilding that likely dates back to around 1680. It is a single-storey structure with an attic, featuring a three-bay rectangular plan and asymmetrical crow-stepped gables. A stone forestair leads to the north side, and there is a rectangular shed or store situated close to the west, behind the rebuilt Whitehouse. The building is constructed of harl-pointed rubble.

On the east, or principal elevation, the doorway is offset to the left of center, with a window to the outer left and another window to the right of center. The north side features a stone forestair with an extended wall projecting east, leading to a boarded door that is offset to the left of the gable. Above this door, there is a gablehead stack.

The windows are 6-pane timber sash and case style. The roof is made of corrugated iron with a stone ridge, and there are rubble corniced gablehead stacks on both the north and south sides, with the stack on the south extended.

To the west, there is a rectangular-plan pitched store made of harl-pointed rubble, topped with a roof of Purple Welsh slates and a stone ridge.

The interiors were not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
