Description
This outbuilding at Flenders Farm, located on High Flender Road in Clarkston, dates from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is a single-storey and attic structure that may have originally served as the farmhouse. The building was likely raised in the mid-19th century and extended to the west, with new openings created for its use as a farm steading. The exterior is made of whitewashed rubble with ashlar dressings, and it features some almost square roll-moulded window openings that have survived. The roof is covered with grey slates and has slightly overhanging eaves, with no visible skews or stacks.
The east gable faces the roadside and retains its original form, showcasing a single roll-moulded window at the ground floor and two attic windows that are now blocked. There is masonry evidence of a former gable visible above. The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has been remodelled and includes a door at the ground floor, a large vehicle opening that once had sliding doors, and two windows. Above, there is a loft loading door that breaks the eaves in a gabled dormer head, along with skylights for the loft.
On the north elevation, there is one small roll-moulded window that is now blocked, and ventilation holes are set along the former eaves line. The west side features a blind gable. Inside, a bolection-moulded chimneypiece remains in the east gable.
