Description

Busby District Primary School, built around 1900, is a tall two-storey building designed in the free Renaissance style, featuring full-height three-storey shallow flanking wings. The exterior is constructed from stugged and squared yellow rubble with polished ashlar dressings set on a bull-faced offset plinth. The main range has a rectangular plan with grouped windows that have blocked margins and keystones. There is a band course between the floors and a continuous mutule cornice, which is occasionally bracketed. The wings have smaller windows, and the cornice is raised in a semi-circle over the round-arched panel of the upper central window on both the east and west elevations, with the west window featuring columned mullions. The building has a parapet and an open porch at the north end of the wings, each with two round archways and tall keystones. The north elevation includes four inner windows and a shallow balcony between the floors inscribed with "Busby Public School." The roof is low-pitched and slated.
