Description

This farmhouse at Housecraigs Farm on Eaglesham Road dates back to 1794, which likely marks the construction of the house and its associated steading, although there have been alterations and additions made in the early to mid-19th century. The building is a single-storey, three-bay farmhouse that was later raised to include an attic. It is linked to the steading, which is set at right angles, creating a symmetrical U-plan layout that faces the main road. The structure is built of squared rubble with broadly droved ashlar dressings and features an eaves course, all of which have been whitewashed. The roof is covered with grey slates and has coped stacks.

The farmhouse has a doorway near the center, which features a dated lintel with the initials AR and a modern door. On either side of the entrance are windows at ground level, with two later canted, piended dormers added to the attic. The rear of the house has two windows and some blocked openings, with most windows being four-pane sash and case types. The steading is connected to the farmhouse by slightly lower piended ranges that have doors facing the front. The right wing of the steading has been extended by two bays at the rear, while the left range is currently roofless as of 1991.

Inside the farmhouse, there is a cast-iron balustrade on the staircase that features foliate ornamentation. The steading consists of two single-storey ranges with gables facing the road. The range on the right has two doors leading to the courtyard, along with windows at the rear and a boarded attic window in the gable. The left range has two later large double doors opening to the courtyard and slit openings in the gable.
