Description
Kittoch Bridge in Glasgow is a structure that dates back to 1884, as indicated by a datestone on the bridge, which refers to alterations made to reduce the skew of the roadway. The bridge has two main construction phases and appears to be from the 18th century. It features a single semi-circular span that carries the B759 over Kittoch Water. The bridge is built from rubble with ashlar dressings. The roadway was widened to approximately 20 feet to the east, likely in the second half of the 18th century, and has a droved ashlar soffit. The original arch, located closest to the west, was probably constructed in the first half of the 18th century. There are subsidiary arches on either side, keyed in above the voussoirs, and two diagonally opposing abutments were re-clad in 1884 to support the re-aligned roadway. The parapets, also from 1884, are made of vermiculated ashlar and feature raised terminal piers.
