Description

The storehouse at St Mary's, built in 1608, is a two-storey and attic structure with a rectangular plan and four bays. It features a near-symmetrical design, crowstepped gables, and a steeply pitched roof, located by the shore. The exterior is constructed of harl-pointed random rubble with squared rubble dressings, and it has long and short margins around the openings, as well as long and short quoins.

On the south (shoreside) elevation, there is a window at ground level offset to the right of center, with a blocked window above it on the first floor. A boarded door is located at ground level in the outer right bay, with another blocked window above. To the left of center, there is a ground-level window and a boarded door on the first floor above it. There is also a ground-level window in the outer left bay, with a blocked window above.

The north (roadsidе) elevation has an irregular two-bay design with a blocked window at each floor in the central bay. The west (side) elevation features a forestair leading from the north elevation to a boarded door, which is offset to the right of center, along with a small window in the gable above. There is also a boarded door with a letterbox fanlight at ground level in the outer right bay.

The east (side) elevation consists of a single bay, offset to the left of center, with a blocked window at ground level, a window on the first floor, and a small window in the gable, which has a gablehead stack above. Most windows are boarded, with some timber-framed remaining. The roof is covered with grey slate on the upper half and graded Caithness stone tiles on the lower half, featuring a stone ridge. The east gable has a truncated squared rubble, corniced gablehead stack.

The interior was not seen during the inspection in 1997.
