Description

Temperance Hall in St Mary's Village is a former Temperance Hall built in the late 19th century. It has a symmetrical rectangular plan with five bays and a two-bay entrance projection at the northeast angle. The exterior is made of roughly coursed rubble with harl-pointed finish.

On the south elevation, there is a central two-leaf timber door with a two-pane fanlight above it, flanked by blocked windows in each bay. The east elevation features a centered window in a single bay gabled hall block to the left, with a crucifix above the gable. To the right, there is a boarded door with a window beside it, set in a slightly recessed porch block.

The west elevation has a centered window in a single bay gabled wall, also topped with a crucifix. The side elevations have timber framed windows, with a four-pane timber sash and case window at the entrance. There are also blocked windows remaining. The roof is covered with purple Welsh slate, featuring a stone ridge and a corniced rubble gablehead stack on the north entrance block. The skews are made of cement, with cavetto moulded skewputts, although the one at the southeast angle is missing. The building predominantly has cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the hall is timber-lined throughout, featuring timber panelled internal doors and a timber dado rail. The ceiling is canted and divided into geometric fields, and there is a two-stage timber platform at the east end.
