1 Bridge Street, Kirkwall

1 Bridge Street in Kirkwall is a late 18th century house that incorporates earlier elements and has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey building with an attic and a three-bay rectangular plan, featuring a stop-chamfered northwest angle and harled exterior.

On the north (principal) elevation, there is a part-glazed boarded door with a letterbox fanlight located in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window on both floors flanking the central entrance.

The south (rear) elevation has a window in each bay at both floors, although they are arranged irregularly.

The west (side) elevation features a window at each floor, offset to the right of the center, along with a small attic window to the right of the gable. There is a multi-flue gablehead stack above.

The east (side) elevation abuts Number 3 Bridge Street.

The building predominantly has four-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is made of grey slate with purple slate at the ridge and a stone ridge. The west gable has a corniced stack, and uPVC rainwater goods are present.
