Tounigar, 22 Shore Street, Kirkwall

Tounigar, located at 22 Shore Street in Kirkwall, is a later 18th century house that has undergone some alterations. It is a two-storey, two-bay rectangular-plan building with an asymmetrical crow-stepped gable and tall stacks, featuring a gabled end facing the street. The exterior is harled, with roughly coursed rubble exposed on the south elevation. The windows on the north elevation have been blocked.

On the north elevation facing Shore Street, there is a window on each floor in the right bay, and a window at the first floor in the left bay, with a gablehead stack above. The entrance elevation features a doorway with an architrave and cornice at ground level in the central bay, with a small window above at the first floor. There is also a window on each floor in the left bay.

The south elevation has a raised central flue with an extended gablehead stack above, and a ground-level window close to the flue in the left bay. The east elevation has small-pane fixed timber-framed windows, rooflights on the eastern pitch, and a modern felt-tiled roof. The north side has a tall harled cornice stack, while the south side features a rubble stack with a tall brick extension. The property has uPVC rainwater goods, with some remnants still visible.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
