44 Alfred Street, Stromness

44 Alfred Street in Stromness is a mid to late 19th century, two-storey house with an attic and a near-symmetrical, four-bay rectangular plan. The gable end faces the street and it is attached to number 42 to the north. The exterior is harled with an eaves course and cement block cills.

On the south elevation, there is a deep-set timber panelled door at ground level in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each of the outer bays has a window at both floors, and there is an additional window at ground level in the outer right bay.

The west elevation features a two-bay gabled wall, with a window in the left bay at both floors and a ground-level window in the right bay, along with an attic window above. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, except for a fixed small-pane attic window. The roof is covered with Caithness slate and has a stone ridge, with replacement concrete skews and harled coped gablehead stacks on the east (more recent) and west sides, along with moulded clay cans and uPVC rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
