Description
Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations. 2-storey rectangular-plan pair of houses comprising asymmetrical 2-bay gable-ended house to left (W) adjoining symmetrical 3-bay house to right built on ground rising to W; Youth Hostel (Nos 45 and 47) adjoining to right (E), not listed. Pointed random rubble with cement-rendered and lined margins to openings. 1st floor windows set close under eaves.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: No 51: modern part-glazed door with large rectangular fanlight and small window flanking to right at ground to right. Window at each floor to left. No 49: modern part-glazed door with large rectangular fanlight at ground in bay to centre; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in bays flanking.
W (SIDE) ELEVATION: blank gabled bay with gablehead stack.
Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Old Orkney grey slate roof; stone ridge; concrete skews; corniced rubble gablehead and ridge stacks; thackstanes; uPVC and cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1997; properties lying empty.
WALLED GARDEN: rubble walls around long rectangular-plan garden on rising ground at rear (W).
