Description

Quoypettie is a mid-19th century cottage with later additions, located in Deerness. It is a single-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan symmetrical structure, accompanied by a single-storey, single-bay outbuilding at right angles to the rear, creating an L-plan complex. The cottage is built of random rubble with concrete cills. There is also a later single-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan shed at the rear, which extends the original outbuilding, constructed of harl-pointed rubble with a breeze block easing course.

The west elevation features a deep-set boarded door in the central bay, with a window in each of the flanking bays. The north and south side elevations are blank, with a gablehead stack. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case style, and there are small rooflights on the west pitch. The roof is covered with purple slate, has a stone ridge, and features rubble, corniced gablehead stacks, along with thack stanes.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998. The outbuildings include a boarded door set to the left of the west gabled elevation and a fixed timber-framed window to the left in the north elevation. The roof of the outbuilding is stone-tiled and turf-covered. Inside, there are exposed rafters and tie beams, with a deep-set boarded door and a window in each bay flanking, all set to the right of the north elevation of the later wing to the east. The outbuilding also has fixed timber-framed windows and a corrugated-iron roof with a stone ridge. The interior of the outbuilding was also not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
