Description
The Manse at Briskar in Deerness, designed by Thomas Telford and constructed by contractors J Davidson and T Macfarlane in 1828, is a single-storey, five-bay, H-plan standard Parliamentary manse. The building features coursed rubble with slaister pointing, and the principal elevation has blocked ashlar around the door and window surrounds.
On the east (principal) elevation, there is a central door with a rectangular fanlight and flanking windows, along with advanced outer bays. The south elevation has a window that is off-centre to the left. The west elevation includes a door to the centre left and a window at the centre, with an advanced wing to the left that has two windows and another advanced wing to the right featuring a central door. The north elevation has a central window.
The principal elevation and rear door are boarded up, and there is a timber boarded door to the rear wing, which serves as a byre. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case. The roof is piended slate, with slates laid in diminishing courses, and features two coped ridge stacks with three circular cans on each. There is also a rooflight above the off-centre door at the rear.
The interior was not seen in 2001.
