Description
This early 20th century former bank building, located at 57-65 Main Street in Coatbridge, is a two-storey structure with a rectangular plan and classical style, situated on a corner site. The building features a polished grey granite base course and sandstone ashlar that is channelled at the ground floor, topped with a slate roof.
The ground floor is arcaded, showcasing keystoned, round-headed arch windows, with paired Doric engaged columns facing Main Street and single engaged columns on Church Street. Above, the first floor has architraved windows with corniced lintels and 12-pane sash and case glazing. The building is finished with a corniced balustraded parapet that includes angle dies, as well as corniced stacks with terracotta cans.
On the Main Street elevation, there is a two-leaf panelled door with a fanlight and engaged columns set at a splayed angle to the right, accompanied by four symmetrical bays to the left featuring windows on both the ground and first floors. The Church Street elevation includes a panelled door to the right with a keystoned round-headed doorcase, three windows to the left, and four windows on the first floor. The interior has not been seen.
