Description

Airdrie Savings Bank, located at 1 Main Street in Coatbridge, is a bank building designed by James Davidson and Son, completed in 1920. This three-storey structure is built in a classical style and occupies a corner site. It features red ashlar sandstone with a rusticated ground floor and a concealed slate roof. The polished granite base course supports a corniced fascia panel over the ground floor. The first and second floors are adorned with a composite-capitalled pilastrade, while a dentilled cornice leads to a balustraded parapet with inscribed panels.

The ground floor includes keystoned round-headed windows with moulded large-pane frames, while the first floor has architraved and pedimented windows. The upper floors are fitted with 4-pane sash and case frames, and there is a canted architraved window at the angle of the building. At the corner, there is a finialled elongated dome and corniced stacks.

On the Main Street elevation, there is a door with a fanlight at the left angle, accompanied by a granite-columned doorpiece, two windows in the center, and another door with a fanlight to the right. The first and second floors feature three windows, with a canted window at the left angle. The Sunnyside Road elevation has two windows on the ground floor and one window each on the first and second floors. The interior has not been seen.
