Description

Lloyds Tsb Bank, located at 1110 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow, was designed by Neil C Duff and completed in 1906, originally serving as the Glasgow Savings Bank. This tall, four-storey building with an attic features a corner design and domestic flats on the upper floors. It is constructed of red ashlar stone that has been cleaned, with a granite base that reaches the ground floor cills. The building showcases Renaissance ornamentation, including decorative sculptured panels, friezes, and tympana. There are thin vertical shafts above the ground floor, pedimented wall-head gables and dormerheads, and a curved corner bay that rises a full storey above the eaves. Columns between the attic lights support a stone dome.

The bank entrance is located at the angle of the building, featuring a deep arched hood supported by a pair of columns with consoles, and a sculptured crest in the tympanum. The ground floor has three bays on the street elevations, with a close door in the outer bay facing Moss-side Road. Each opening is adorned with an enriched frieze and a consoled cornice. The ground floor cornice is prominent, and there is a three-storey canted window centrally placed on each street elevation. The building has corniced stacks and a slate roof.

Inside, the large banking hall boasts an elaborate coved ceiling decorated with strapwork ornament, the bank monogram, and the date 1906. Most of the woodwork in the interior is modern.
