Coia's Buildings, 27, 29 Main Street, Coatbridge

Coia's Buildings, located at 27 and 29 Main Street in Coatbridge, is a former cafe, shop, and domestic building designed by Thomas Smith in 1926. This narrow, four-storey structure with a basement showcases the 'Glasgow style' of architecture. The ground and first floors feature timber and plate glass, while the upper floors are constructed of polished red sandstone ashlar with brick return elevations. A brick pediment adorned with white-glazed brick bands enhances its façade.

The front elevation includes an original shopfront with a figured glass door, which is currently obscured by a plain modern shopfront. Above this, the first floor displays a full-width, five-light plate glass window with the name 'COIA'S CENTRAL CAFE' prominently featured. The second floor is highlighted by a decorative wrought-iron verandah and a recessed four-light canted window, which is topped with a decorative wrought-iron parapet. On the third floor, there is a four-light window set beneath a corniced and coped pediment. The interior of the building has not been seen.
