Description

Coltness Masonic Lodge, built in 1907 by John Forrester Steel, is a two-storey, three-bay classical building with Tudorbethan details located at 147 Stewarton Street in Wishaw. The facade is made of red sandstone ashlar with a rusticated base, while the sides and rear are constructed of brick. The first floor features a prominent oriel window.

On the southwest elevation, there is a bull-faced masonry base course, with a central oculus that has a projecting architrave and keystone. The square-headed door has a plain architrave and leads to a semicircular hood moulded arch framing a semicircular fanlight. To the left, there is a two-light window with similar mouldings and surround. The central oriel window on the first floor is supported by fan corbels and is flanked by windows in the outer bays, which are framed with paired Ionic pilasters on a prominent dividing band course and corbels. The building features a projecting cornice and frieze, with a stepped and corniced parapet scroll that is flanked by a segmental pediment on the central bay, which bears an embossed panel reading 'LODGE ST. MARY COLTNESS MASONIC NO. 31'.

The northeast (rear) elevation was not visible in 2000, while both the northwest and southeast side elevations are unfenestrated brick. The glazing has been altered, except for the small-pane oculus and fanlights at the ground level. The roofing was also not seen in 2000. The interior was not visible in 2000.
