Description

John Scotland, 1890, 2-storey, 6-bay, square-plan corner, terraced tenement with shops at ground. Yellow sandstone ashlar. Square, 2-stage bipartite oriel window to corner bay; base course, 1st floor cill course, entablature with cavetto eaves cornice; pilasters flanking 1st floor architraved windows.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical, single bay, semicircular blind arch to centre with projecting keystone, flanking pilasters with chamfered panels supporting bracketed entablature also with chamfered panels, oriel terminating in recessed, pedimented bi-partitie dormer window; flanking pedimented double bays to return, architraved oculi with Greek cross device to tympanum.

NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical, 7 bays, pedimented double bay to left, timber and plate glass shop front to ground regularly fenestrated at first floor, regular fenestration to first floor; 4-bays to right, modern shop front to ground, symmetrical first floor, bi-partite and single windows, architraved date stone '1890' with small segmental arch pediment to centre bay.

SE (SIDE): ELEVATION: asymmetrical, 5 bays; timber and plate glass pilastered shopfront at ground; pedimented double bay to right, with wallhead chimney to apex, architraved date stone, '1890', with small segmental arch pediment to centre bay, regularly fenestrated, projecting quoins to right; bi-partite windows to bays to left.

SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: adjoining building.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: adjoining building.

Replacement windows to first floor; grey slates, lead ridges, coped gable end stacks, square cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: Various modern shop fittings, residential storey not seen 2000.
