3, 5 Main Street, Wishaw

3 and 5 Main Street in Wishaw is a two-storey, six-bay, square-plan corner tenement built in 1890 by John Scotland. The building features yellow sandstone ashlar and includes shops on the ground floor. Notable architectural elements include a square, two-stage bipartite oriel window at the corner, a base course, a first-floor cill course, and an entablature with a cavetto eaves cornice. The first floor is flanked by pilasters that support architraved windows.

The principal elevation is symmetrical with a single bay that has a semicircular blind arch at the center, featuring a projecting keystone and flanking pilasters with chamfered panels. These support a bracketed entablature, also with chamfered panels. The oriel window terminates in a recessed, pedimented bipartite dormer window. There are flanking pedimented double bays that return, with architraved oculi displaying a Greek cross device in the tympanum.

The northeast side elevation is asymmetrical with seven bays, including a pedimented double bay on the left and a timber and plate glass shop front on the ground floor. The first floor has regular fenestration, while the right side has four bays with a modern shop front on the ground and symmetrical first-floor windows, which include bi-partite and single windows. There is an architraved date stone reading '1890' with a small segmental arch pediment above the center bay.

The southeast side elevation is also asymmetrical with five bays. It features a timber and plate glass pilastered shop front at the ground level and a pedimented double bay on the right, which has a wallhead chimney at the apex. This side also has an architraved date stone '1890' with a small segmental arch pediment above the center bay, regular fenestration, and projecting quoins to the right, with bi-partite windows on the left.

The southwest and northwest side elevations are adjoining buildings. The first-floor windows have been replaced, and the roof is covered with grey slates and lead ridges, with coped gable end stacks and square cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior contains various modern shop fittings, while the residential storey was not seen in 2000.
