Description

The Masonic Hall, located at 11 Collier Street in Johnstone, was built in 1912. This two-storey building features a symmetrical three-bay design in the free Renaissance style, with Arts and Crafts details.

The front elevation showcases a central arched doorway, complete with a keystone and a deep hoodmould supported by consoles. On the ground floor, there are small 8-pane sash and case windows on either side of the doorway. Above, a balustraded balcony displays the date 1912 on a central die. Flanking the balcony are two single windows, which are framed by a lugged cartouche that includes the name of the lodge. The windows consist of 2-pane lower sashes and 3-pane upper sashes. The end bays of the building are slightly advanced, each featuring a single window at ground level and a shallow oriel window on the first floor, supported by chunky corbels and with glazing only at the front. A moulded cill course and a plain eaves band adorn the oriel. The tops of the end bays are crenellated, with gablet copes and 8-panelled hemispherical domed roofs topped with Glasgow-style stalk-and-disc finials.

At the street line, there are dwarf walls flanking the entrance, which are accompanied by four gatepiers. The walls and copes are original, although the shafts of the piers have been rebuilt. Modern mesh railings complete the entrance. The interior has not been seen.
