Description

Earlier 20th century. Single storey asymmetrical Scottish 17th century style gate lodge, squared and coursed dark red sandstone, crowstepped gables, plain margins.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: entrance door in bowed porch with battlement in re-entrant angle of 2 short wings, armorial panel in square, moulded surround in corbelled parapet above door, narrow window to side. Bay to right, gable end with canted stone piended window, slit window in gablehead.

NW ELEVATION: 3 bays, plain windows to centre, bays flanking gable ends with 2 windows, raised/projecting stack rising from ground to gablehead in bay to right.

NE AND SE ELEVATIONS: baronial features absent.

Modern plate glass replacement windows, grey slate roof.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

GATEPIERS: paired gatepiers flanking carriage entrance, forming pedestrian access to each side. Dark red sandstone ashlar. Square with base, panelled body with cornice supporting pyramidal caps on ball feet. Low wall to left and right, outlying piers without pyramidal caps. 2-leaf vehicular gates, single pedestrian and iron railings.
