Description
Stane Castle is a ruin, significantly modernised, likely repaired around 1750 when round arched windows and panels were incorporated. The building is rectangular in plan, featuring a round corner staircase built into the wall's thickness. It includes a low-vaulted basement, and the upper portion originally comprised three stages with joisted floors. The corbelling under the parapet is distinguished by a moulded course at both the top and bottom, and two rows of detached corbels positioned in between. Stane Castle likely dates from the 16th century and shares architectural similarities with other structures in North Ayrshire. Additional information and illustrations can be found in C. and D. Arch. Vol. V, pages 350-352.
