Description

12-20 Bank Street in Airdrie is a mid-19th century, three-storey, seven-bay classical corner tenement block that includes shops on the ground floor. The building features a slightly recessed, bowed corner bay and is constructed from painted yellow ashlar sandstone. Notable architectural details include a dividing band between the ground and first floor, an eaves course, and a projecting cornice. The windows have moulded architraves, with projecting moulded cornices on the first floor and projecting cills on the second storey.

The west elevation, which is the principal elevation, has a regular arrangement of seven bays with a bowed bay on the outer left. The east elevation at the rear has irregular fenestration and is partially obscured by adjacent buildings. The north elevation facing Hallcraig Street features a three-bay layout with regular fenestration, while the south elevation is obscured by an adjoining building.

The windows consist of six-pane upper sashes and plate glass lower sashes. The roof is low and hipped, covered with grey slates and lead flashing.

Inside, the ground floor has modern shop fittings, the first floor consists of gutted store rooms, and the second floor was not seen in 2001.
